Peter and Erin laying cable and placing electrodes in the Laga (dry river bed) near the Well 4 cluster and several hand dug wells at the north end of Kakua 1. Kakuma 1 was the original camp of the Lost Boys of Sudan when they first arrived, beginning in 1991. Our plan for our first few days of surveying is to tie our lines to existing boreholes so as we can develop confidence in our interpretations of the data.

Michael came to Kakuma 17 years ago as a child after his village in Sudan (now South Sudan) was attacked and massarcred during a cattle raid. MIchael excelled in IsraAID’s introductory and advanced WASH courses, and is now teaching introductory WASH classes. For this program, Michael is helping with the film crew and assisting the geophysics crew in translating and navigating the maze of dirt tracks in the camp.

All 3 students graduated from IsraAID’s advanced 8 month WASH (WAter, Sanitation, and Hygiene) course, and have already been introduced to field geophysics and water exploration through the course.
