In 2016, Alastair McClymont and Paul Bauman used electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) to locate a 32 meter escape tunnel from the heavily guarded Pit 6 slave prison at the Ponar extermination camp near Vilnius. Though documented by the escapees, without any physical evidence of the tunnel, the escape story of the “Burning Brigade” had long ago moved from history to myth. A PBS NOVA documentary was released in April 2017 about the tunnel and its discover. “Holocaust Escape Tunnel” received more than 20 million views on Netflix and is now on YouTube.
